A PROPER CAR BOOT....

Ooh it seems to be ages since I went a-rooting through a proper car boot, so when DH suggested that we head off to Hemswell I was not going to complain.
The sun shone, though the wind did make an appearance, bringing with it a dust storm which will no doubt take all week to wash out of my hair, but it was lovely to be outside again. Hemswell Cliff to give it its proper name, is on the way to Gainsborough. The site of an old airbase, several of the buildings are now Antique and Collectors centres with a really good mix of furniture, jewellery, pottery and vintage ephemera.
Every Sunday they also hold a Sunday market and car boot sale. There are masses of stalls and I think probably something to suit all tastes.

Today I managed to pick up a few pieces so I returned home a very happy bunny...

 Forgive the photos, I am afraid I left it a little late to take them and the light was failing fast......

 First I found this sweet plate from the Masons seaside days range. I love these vintage images anyway but since it was a Masons, which I collect, though mainly the pink vista, and it featured a Morris Minor, our favourite vintage car I just had to have it. DH collects Morris Minor models, so once he gets his own 'den' set up I think it will be disappearing to hang on his wall......

I then picked up the 3 final books in the Beatrix Potter series to complete my set....and all for just £2.....They look lovely on the display shelf that I found some time ago......

Finally the two items I am most pleased with....

Vintage green melamine...a butter dish and a lemon juicer, my collection is growing....

my unfitted kitchen is going to need some more shelves before long.....

Well I think that sums up my haul this time, oh except for a rather nice vintage necklace..

It is actually grey but has a slight gold tinge to it. I was wearing a khaki jacket today and it looked great against that so I can see it being very useful.

Well I hope you all had a good weekend and that the sun shone for you as it has for us. We actually got to sit out in it on Saturday, in fact it was so nice I had to deny myself the pleasure of cleaning!!.Mind it hasn't gone away so no doubt the pleasure will be all mine again this week.

About time I turned in now, but I will be popping by soon to check on what you are all up to....

NOT HARD TO FILL AN EMPTY SPACE......

Evening all

For any of you that follow my posts, you will know that my daughter's family have just moved out into their new home. It feels very odd to have the house to ourselves, and for it to feel so big and empty.  Of course it is neither, A reasonable size, but with a few rooms that are definitely shall we say currently looking very minimal. However that will not be for long as the following piccies of some of my recent finds will prove. I have already installed new beds in the 2 bedrooms they have vacated and am about to gut what was their first floor sitting room to turn it into my new sewing room. I will post about the progress of those later, but in the meantime here is my recent haul (not bought all at once I might add) CS, CB and fair finds.......

Hubby bought me the chicken because it reminded him of Kellogg's adverts...to go with my advertising collection...I must say I agree and have come to love him..(the chicken not the husband..)

a Beswick bunny....just because!...(least I think its Beswick. It looks like Sylvac but has no number on the base!)

a couple of pieces of retro kitchenalia....

my latest love.......he's just so cute....

and a couple of pieces for my DDs new home..retro of course. The pictures aren't great but it was getting late....The most expensive of these was the scales, currently retailing at about £33, for the princely sum of £7.60..good old Ebay

Finally a sneak preview of one of the rooms about to be revamped, its all very exciting like starting again, now wheres that paint pot!!....

OCTOBER GEMS..

No not the sparkly sort.....

...the ones that make you really appreciate your lot.....A beautiful afternoon spent with good company (DH and grandson) enjoying the marvellous scenery and mother natures treasures.....

Rutland water...

...people messing about in boats....

....exploring the woodland paths...

....man and boy in perfect harmony...

...then the spoils of an unexpected car boot sale....still carrying on until the weather breaks.....

Ok so its only repro..but it will look great in my kitchen....

...............and the best find of all.........

I already have one of these but without the box, and I have to say that it is the box which appeals to me the most...I just love the illustrations, It will look great in my sewing room!  I think I might have to take the other one to a little antique and collectors fair that my SIL and I are doing at Lincoln showground in December..

Well lets hope the rest of the month proves as pleasurable as these first few days. We are off to Gloucester at the weekend. Never been before so hoping for a good rummage.
The new coat is almost finished so should be able to give you a peek in a day or two, hoping to take it with me, so I'd better get it done!!

I am very flattered but I am supposed to tell you seven interesting facts about me........well I will be honest and say I did this once before and can't for the life of me think of anything else at the moment, so I am going to think about this a bit longer.  I should also pass it on to 5 other lovely bloggers, but there are so many of you that deserve it far more than me that I hate to leave anyone out, so am not going to do this either.
I do hope Amy will forgive me and still read my blog!

HELLO...I'M STILL HERE.......

Hi everyone, after writing a post at least every week and sometimes twice since I started in February, life suddenly caught up with me this week and I have only just managed to grab a bit of time to say hello!

I was going to take you on another tour, this time to Rufford Abbey and Country Park, but I will have to save that for later in the week.

I cannot believe I actually forgot my camera this time, but my friend came to the rescue and let me pinch hers for the day. I have therefore had to wait for her to bring her lead etc so I could download the pictures and they need a bit of attention before I can show you them.

In the meantime.........here are a few things I picked up at the car boot on Sunday morning before we set off for Rufford.

 Yet another 'vintage' book though as you can see by the date it is rather more antique than that and in amazing condition!

My DH bought this first painting  from a CS on the way home from one of our weekends away, I absolutely love it and so wanted to share it. It just sums up the English countryside for me..

a bit more detail....

There is just something about water colours that really appeals to me.  I don't really understand 'art', all I know is what I like. The kind of thing that makes me smile, gasp and wonder at the amazing talent of some artists. I've never really got to grips with modern art ......but then it wouldn't do for everyone to be the same.

One water colour artist I have come across is Jason Parsons, who I believe came from Lincolnshire. I found  a beautiful picture of an estuary with boat sheds and a small boat in a CS once and then later at a CB found another small example of his work.  I keep looking out for more, but no luck yet.

My second picture was from the CB on Sunday...

again I really know nothing about it except it has the same appeal as the vintage books about school life.....or Swallows and Amazons.......

My final treasures (apart from a couple which I can't share at the moment as they are for swaps) were this vintage tablecloth and tray cloth....sorry the pictures aren't so good being white on white...

Such incredible fine stitching it makes you wonder how they did it when they would have had such poor lighting compared to today!!

And last but not least I have wanted one of these for ages. All the ones I had seen were about £8.99 and this little beauty was a mere £3.99 from Timmerman's garden centre on the way to Rufford.  I use this rustic twine for some of my bunting and for hanging unbleached linen hearts, so I will be able to keep it tidy now and not constantly knotted.

HOW DID IT GET TO BE FRIDAY?.......

Well last time I checked it was Tuesday, which I thought was Monday...and now it's Friday and I just don't know where that week has gone!!

I said last time I posted that I would show my plunder from an intensive 3 days of scouring CBs....

Well.... to start with and apologies to the people of Wetherby who organised it Saturday was an Antique and Collectibles show!!...And as usual, since a good proportion of it was outside ..it rained all day!

We arrived in Wetherby itself about 11.30 and having refreshed ourselves with the obligatory bacon sarnie and cuppa we headed for the town hall where a small collectors fair was being held.

Not much else appealed and despite the rain I did get these from the racecourse show

Golden dawn plates by Johnsons..If you're new here I collect the 'dawn' pottery and have just decided to collect all four icecream colours . Will have to get rid of some of the pale blue (called greydawn) to make room.

On Sunday it was the local CB...and the sun shone! But no bargains this time except for a couple of things that are to be surprise pressies so no piccies yet. However on Monday.........A veritable treasure chest..

Some Masons vista...only started collecting this to put red and white pottery on my white dresser. It does look good ........ and I only collect pieces I haven't got now!

A cute little water jug or maybe coffee pot, but a bit small I think!

A lovely rose patterned bottle for my bathroom...even the stopper is decorated..

And finally 2 Sylvac square dishes...such a pretty shade of pink..may not keep these but were too good a bargain to pass by

I did try to but this but I don't think the owner was very keen!

My SIL and I are now debating doing a stall at Lincoln showground at the monthly collectible fair, to have a bit of a clear out, ( only to make room for more of course...!), so if we do I'll let you know in case anyone lives hereabouts and would like to come and say hello.

.....Oh but before I go...

I received this super gift in the post today from Crystal, it was a raffle prize I won after making a donation to cancer research. I was amazed when I received the Email, as I have to admit I didn't even know there was a raffle. I was happy enough to donate anyway, as it is a cause close to my heart.  But thank you to everyone who organised it and especially to Crystal for this wonderful water bottle cover complete with water bottle.  They must have known that I am a real fan in the winter, even filling one and putting it on my lap on the coldest evenings and wrapping myself up in one of my quilts. Ooo heaven!

At least I will be very stylish this winter!!...and in case anyone organising anything for other good causes needs raffle prizes do get in touch as I would be only too happy to oblige. I have received such a mountain of wonderful gifts from so may people I have never met in these last few months that it would be a pleasure to give something back!
